Citrus Heights, CA | Future Honda is a premier California Honda dealership situated on a large, nine-acre lot on the corner of a busy intersection. As the intersection serves as a major thoroughfare, it’s prone to crime, and the dealership was experiencing frequent incidents ranging from catalytic converter theft to vandalism and damage to new cars.

CHALLENGE: Premier California Auto Dealership Confronts Crime on Its Premises

The dealership’s existing surveillance cameras deployed throughout the lot were proving to be a costly and ineffective tool in solving and deterring crime. In order to obtain any useful evidence for crime investigations, a staff member would have to manually sift through hours of video footage at a time. As such, Kevin Mantz, Future Honda’s General Manager, recognized the need for a comprehensive security overhaul that would not only save time but also allow for a quicker response when an incident occurred. He began exploring solutions to bolster security at the dealership that would fit into their limited budget.

SOLUTION: Partnering with  Local Law Enforcement to Prevent Crime with Flock Safety’s  Falcon® LPR Cameras

As an initial step in the search for a new security solution, Mantz consulted Citrus Heights Police Department to get their insights into the most effective tools to address Future Honda’s crime issues.

The Police Department worked with Mantz to do a walkthrough of the property, during which they introduced the idea of License Plate Recognition (LPR) cameras. Citrus Heights PD specifically recommended LPR cameras as they were already successfully leveraging them to address crime throughout the community. The Chief of Police discussed how the vehicle data captured by LPR cameras would be used to investigate criminal conduct and help law enforcement apprehend known offenders.

As a family-owned business, the idea of a holistic security solution that would help the police department, their local community, and their business deeply resonated with Mantz as well as the owner of Future Honda. Ultimately, the dealership decided to deploy Flock Safety Falcon® LPR cameras around the perimeter of their lot to ensure coverage of all vehicles entering and exiting the premises.

RESULTS: Multiple Criminals Apprehended Within the First Four Months of Installing Flock Safety Falcon® LPR Cameras

Within four months of the implementation of Flock Safety Falcon® LPR cameras at Future Honda, law enforcement was able to leverage their data to apprehend multiple criminals.

Empowering Law Enforcement to Combat Crime

Following the deployment of Flock Safety Falcon® LPR cameras, Mantz quickly began noticing an increased presence of law enforcement in and around the dealership’s property. As Future Honda opted to share their Flock data with the Citrus Heights PD, the PD started to get an influx of alerts regarding known offenders passing by the dealership’s cameras.

The consistent presence of law enforcement on their lot, facilitated by the Flock Safety Falcon® LPR cameras, led to a significant drop in catalytic converter theft, vandalism and other crimes at the dealership. Additionally, the automatic, real-time alerts to law enforcement allowed for quicker response times from law enforcement in the event of any criminal activity.

Beyond the decrease in crime, the implementation of Flock Safety Falcon® LPR cameras allowed the Future Honda team to strengthen their relationship with local law enforcement. Their partnership, underpinned by a shared commitment to increasing the safety of the community, has allowed Mantz and his team to have a deeper understanding of crime in the area and how law enforcement is helping to address it. In addition, the dealership’s employees shared that they felt safer at work since Flock was installed, while customers noted that they appreciated the increased measures to ensure their vehicles would be secure while left for servicing.

The Future Honda team has also found that they do not have to constantly monitor the Flock Safety system for it to be effective, freeing up their team’s time to focus on other important aspects of the business. Because the dealership chose to share their data with law enforcement, they have empowered the PD to proactively respond when a known offender is in the area.
