“We’re caregivers, we should not have to experience the violence that’s happening in hospitals.”
A recent wave of violence in hospitals has shined a light on the growing issue of violence against nurses, doctors, and other healthcare staff. A Philadelphia hospital is dealing with a hit-and-run where a driver struck three nurses who were administering care to a patient with gunshot wounds.
Separately, another Pennsylvania hospital experienced a hostage situation that resulted in a shootout that killed a police officer and injured a nurse, doctor, custodian, and two other officers.
For reference, healthcare workers experience workplace violence at a higher rate than any other profession. And these tragic stories highlight the violence that healthcare workers encounter regularly.
But this doesn’t have to be the reality for patients, nurses, doctors, and staff.
Flock Safety understands the sacrifice that healthcare workers make - and our security solutions strive to keep them protected as they administer care and serve patients.
“When it’s one of our own, we (nurses) begin to feel vulnerable.”
Adopting a proactive approach to hospital crime deterrence entails implementing Flock Safety’s LPR cameras throughout your premises to address any threats before they reach your hospital entrance. Flock Safety’s LPR cameras capture information from license plates - and then automatically notify your in-house security whenever a known threat (like a violent patient) enters your hospital campus or parking lot.
Flock Safety’s Video cameras also capture high-definition video that can be instantly shared with police during any emergencies that occur within a hospital, enabling more rapid responses and better situational awareness. In conjunction with LPR cameras that capture vehicle data, hospitals can set up a virtual security perimeter that can proactively alert security staff whenever a threat enters their premises and decrease the chance of a threat entering the building.
Flock Safety is also easily integrated into existing security systems to offer hospital security teams a centralized view of interior and exterior threats, access points, and eases the process of planning response coordination with law enforcement.
"Since we implemented Flock, we have had not one single…attempt at a car theft, attempt at a car break-in, nothing. And…before that, it was every other week."
The West Cancer Center in Memphis, Tennessee, is a leader in adult cancer care and research with a legacy of four decades dedicated to oncology. The center was experiencing several issues with criminal activity on its premises, including car thefts, break-ins, acts of vandalism, and threats of violence. In fact, The West Cancer Center was encountering attempted crimes almost every other week.
After implementing Flock Safety at the recommendation of law enforcement, the center reduced parking lot crime by 100% - with no attempted car thefts or break-ins.
Flock Safety was also able to increase staff safety with LPR cameras that allowed employees to add known threats to Flock’s custom hot list so security could be alerted and take appropriate action if the person’s vehicle entered their premises.
When a hit-and-run car accident happened on hospital premises, Flock Safety’s LPR cameras were able to quickly identify the offender’s vehicle data, which enabled the victim to file a police report.
As violence and threats against healthcare workers are far too common, Flock Safety is here to give hospital leaders an effective tool to deter crime, create safer healthcare campuses and capture relevant evidence to strengthen partnerships with law enforcement.
