Increased foot and vehicular traffic lead to an uptick in crime in the community
A safer community with LPR cameras
The Baldwin Vista Hillside Neighborhood Association (BVHNA), located in Los Angeles, California, is a diverse community near beaches and a state park that boasts approximately a million visitors annually.
An increase in foot and vehicular traffic led to an uptick in crime in the community. BVHNA began experiencing car break-ins/theft, residential robberies, porch pirates, and other property crimes. After facing a car break-in/theft of her own, BVHNA President Angela Baber walked the streets of Baldwin Vista for a year to bring awareness to raise awareness and funds for their security needs. Unfortunately, the initial camera that they purchased gave them grainy, black-and-white footage with no license plate details. BVHNA realized that ultimately, without license plate numbers, it would be difficult to solve neighborhood crime. Their initial camera did not alleviate their crime issues, so they continued to search for another solution.
After receiving a recommendation for Flock Safety from a resident, Baber decided to implement a Flock Safety Sparrow® license plate recognition camera at the only entrance into the neighborhood. This device collects license plates and vehicle data like color, make, body type, and other unique characteristics. Baber credits the camera’s objective evidence for helping solve numerous community crimes.
Baber credits Flock Safety with helping solve numerous crimes in the neighborhood, including package theft, catalytic converter theft, home robberies, and more. When a crime occurs, she can access the system, search for the vehicle’s license plate, and provide the evidence to local law enforcement.
Baber recalls a notable solved case that solidified the value of Flock Safety cameras. A local politician who lived in their neighborhood had her home burglarized, and weapons were stolen. The politician’s security team contacted Baber, and she was able to provide Flock Safety footage, which was ultimately used to help solve the case.
In addition to solving crimes, the presence of Flock cameras has led to a renewed sense of safety among community members, who are assured that they have the means to take action if an incident occurs.
