High volume of neighborhood traffic leads to increased susceptibility to crime
Shelter Creek COA uses Flock Safety to help solve 100+ crimes
Shelter Creek Condominium Owners Association (Shelter Creek COA) is a community with 9 entrances, 4000 residents, and 1,800 cars that come in and out of the neighborhood daily. Having such an expansive community comes with an increased susceptibility to crime. General Manager Ronnie Rosen reported that they were experiencing catalytic converter theft, car break-ins/theft, and vehicle damage. After reading a community association’s magazine article about how Flock Safety helps solve neighborhood crime, Rosen knew she wanted to pursue Flock Safety as their security solution.
Shelter Creek COA implemented Flock Safety Sparrow® license plate recognition cameras around the entrances and exits of the nine driveways in their community. They placed one camera at each entrance of the seven smaller driveways and two cameras at the entrances and exits to gain coverage for the two larger driveways in the neighborhood.
Some of the features and capabilities that resonated with Rosen as they evaluated vendors was Flock Safety’s extensive experience with HOA communities and solar-powered technology which gave them the flexibility to place cameras anywhere without wiring constraints. In addition, Rosen appreciated the robust license plate recognition capabilities such as the power of Flock Safety NightVision™ and Vehicle Fingerprint®, which detects details such as the color, make, and body, and allows you to conduct searches with partial plate numbers. The ability to share real-time alerts with law enforcement was another feature that stood out to Rosen.
Rosen said since implementing Flock Safety, the LPR cameras have helped solve 100+ crimes over the years. She credits the partnership with law enforcement and being able to share their camera’s data with them so they are alerted and will respond when known offenders enter their neighborhood. She recalls one incident when police were notified that a vehicle theft suspect was parked in their neighborhood. Police responded, and were able to make a quick arrest. She later learned that this individual was part of one of the largest criminal rings in San Bruno.
Their partnership and collaboration with law enforcement has become so impactful that Rosen is able to support the police in real time, confirming vehicle details and license plate numbers while they’re out in the field.
After seeing the success of the Flock Safety cameras in Shelter Creek, the City of San Bruno and two nearby communities have followed suit, installing cameras to further bolster safety in the area..
Every community that has cars that come and go and residents who are concerned for their valuables, not just cars but home break-ins. Those are dangerous and scary. It brings peace of mind to anyone who has Flock Safety because it works 24/7 and your security company may not.
