Flock Safety operates with an earnest and urgent mission to eliminate crime and make communities safer, inspiring a pace which demands quick decision-making, measured collaboration, resourcefulness, and the ability at every career level to roll up one's sleeves and (as the company’s Values states) Do the Work. As with most startups, the opportunity to wear multiple hats and take on diverse responsibilities is a constant, and encourages swift adaptability. Our dynamic culture steers employee career paths in a multitude of directions: some lateral, some vertical, others curvy and some that loop.
And it isn’t for everyone.
However, for the mission-aligned professionals who embrace innovation, enjoy solving new challenges, and crave cutting-edge technology, Flock Safety is an employer of choice for a career-defining experience.
At Flock, employees are expected to be comfortable with change and embrace it as a constant. This mindset fosters a positive attitude towards failure, as it is viewed as an opportunity for learning and improvement. This approach has proven extremely effective for those who hunger for diverse skill acquisition – people like former law enforcement officer Scout C.
Scout C.’s journey at Flock has been anything but linear. Within four-years, she has held roles for as long as 1.5 years to as little as three months, from Product Implementation Specialist, to Product Implementation Lead, to joining the Project Management team and becoming a Majors Project Manager, which led to leading a team of Project Managers in core markets, to serving on the Revenue team as Senior Manager of Regional Operations.
Through all of the changes and learning curves, she touts the willingness of others to train her on new skills, and being given the freedom to fly – and sometimes fail – as invaluable to her career experience.
“I’ve been able to grow and learn so many skills. I have learned more at Flock than I did when earning my college degree!” Scout continued, “There are so many advocates for career growth at Flock, and people are really comfortable with both success and failure. I find that combination so rare…you get to soar, try new things, and even fail. And if something doesn’t work, you put your heads together and figure out what does. That level of support and trust empowers me to innovate and thrive.”
When Austen S. set his sights on a new job opportunity, he knew it would require upleveling his skill set and changing industries. Neither would be simple to do, but leaning into transferable skills - such as adaptability, problem solving, working autonomously and quickly under pressure - would be his sell to recruiters. He decided his first step would be to find a company whose mission aligned with his values.
Enter Flock Safety.
Austen S. approached his new venture in a new industry with immense curiosity and focus. He absorbed knowledge from more technical and tenured teammates, sought to understand how his role and decisions affected the business and his customers, and was open to tackling a variety of projects that would allow him to grow. Austen S. began as an Implementation Specialist (IC), later became a Lead Deployment Strategy Specialist, then a Senior Manager of Deployment Strategy, and now serves as the Director of Operations & Delivery leading a team of 90+ employees – all within three years. Each role came with a significant learning curve, and required the same skills that made him marketable.
He said of the experience, “My only regret in joining Flock is I didn't do it sooner. I've never felt more valued at work and it shows - Flock leadership values hard work, hustle, creativity, collaboration and embracing the company's values and mission - I know the work I do everyday impacts communities all over the country and I couldn't be prouder.”
Emma B. loved the diverse challenges solved while working as a FP&A Manager. During her tenure at Flock Safety, the company underwent an enterprise system implementation and a revenue accounting transformation. The project required Emma to make impactful decisions quickly, and oftentimes gain new skill sets in the moment.
What did she learn?
“Adaptability! Being willing to roll with anything that comes your way and just make it work. One of Flock's values is Embrace Change to Grow, and I feel like this one always came up—we would run into bumps or changes in scope along a project but we'd always gather ourselves, adapt, and make a plan to make it work.”
Emma’s successful execution of these major projects made her an attractive candidate for roles outside of Flock Safety, and she was recruited to her dream job - marrying Artificial Intelligence and Finance.
Emma shared, “I will always be grateful for my time at Flock. I learned so much from my amazing and talented colleagues and I will take the lessons and values to my new role and the rest of my career!”
It takes nearly 1,100 talented employees to help customers solve over 12% of crime nationwide. And while that is a significant gain for the communities impacted, the work itself provides a rich and immersive experience for employees as well.
If you are ready to Embrace Change to Grow, you can find your next career-defining opportunity at Flock Safety.
